One of the underpinning principles of Samuel’s House is to educate and empower those who we work with. Micro-economic projects therefore play an integral role in not only ensuring the financial sustainability of the project but educating those involved about how to start small, viable businesses and build them up. Donations are tax deductible and are through the Global Development Group. Pig farm
The sow is pregnant again and we plan to grow one female piglet from the next litter to maturity and start breeding her with a view to selling the piglets. This will create an additional cash-flow for the project. The Pig Farm will be debt free after the third litter of piglets is sold. The pig farm is managed by our on-site manager Koh. We partnered with Koh in this project to create a business opportunity for him as he provided the sow. He is now creating additional income for his family through this project. Greeting cards

In 2008 we officially launched the Samuel’s House Pig Farm. The first litter of piglets were raised to maturity (100kg) and sold for handsome returns in March 2009. Proceeds from the first litter are being used to make initial instalment repayments towards the capital loan and to finance food and vaccines for the next litter.
We have generated considerable profits from our annual Gift Card drive over the last two years. Hannah and a couple of adult volunteers together with the children work together as a team to produce a range of colourful and unique handmade gift cards which we then distribute in Australia, Singapore and Korea. The proceeds of the cards are then used to seed the following year’s card materials, seed for other micro-business schemes and to finance infrastructure projects. If you would like to help sell the gift cards this year, please
